Session 93 - Secrets At The Fey Council
Wed 3rd September 2025
In-game timeline: Alturiak 14 - Alturiak 14
Our "Heroes" have had a well-deserved rest after the exciting events of the night before - Alwaith vs Meepo. A bit of a one-sided contest, if we're honest, but Alwaith definitely benefited from the support of his friends.
They agree to head towards Secomber, though Faith was still concerned about his family and friends at Easting, and had not fully committed to the proposed destination. Attention turned to the invite from the Fey Council.
After journeying for most of the day in a southerly direction, they agreed to try to use the ocarina to visit the council - if nothing else, it would provide a useful diversion whilst they finalised the next destination - where to attempt to stop the Blood Sacrifice, in the knowledge that wherever they don't go, the sacrifice is likely to occur unhindered.
Solveig puts the tutelage from the satyrs to good use and plays a passable rendition of the provided tune on the fey ocarina, causing a portal to appear in some magical mist. The party step through.
They find themselves back in the feywild, full of vivid colours and interesting smells, stimulating many of the senses at once. An enormous tree stands nearby, with inviting doors in its trunk. They open the doors and step through into a large chamber.
The faun who accosted them earlier - the night before in their time, though apparently a few days earlier for the faun - appears and welcomes them. He thanks them for coming and agrees to take them before the Fey Council, though he explains that the meeting is a clandestine one, and two members of the Fey Council will not be present - this meeting must be done without the knowledge of Sir Alaine and The Harbinger.
Before the various members of the Fey Council, the group is - unusually for some - quite respectful and ingratiating. Solveig becomes the unofficial spokesperson for the group, as he seems most comfortable in this environment.
After some discussion and explanation from the Council as to why the meeting is a secret one, and why these particular members of the Council are willing to go against convention and help in the party's cause, the real offering from the Fey is presented - they are willing to lend the group the use of the Lyrica Noctis - a powerful magic lyre - that could potentially help them in their final battle against the return of Malar.
This instrument is able to play Songs of Power, which in the hands of people such as our "Heroes" could give very useful boons in such a difficult battle, though in the hands of someone stronger could give even more power, hence the instrument, and the Songs themselves, is not to be used lightly, and could become very, very dangerous in the wrong hands.
The group are asked many questions in an attempt to convince the different members of the Fey Council that their intentions are honourable and their usage of the instrument would be noble and brief. Thus convinced, the Fey describe the usage of the instrument, and the locations of the four Songs of Power that it can play. Sanada is especially, and worryingly, interested in the two Lost Songs of Great Power, which are able to unmake matter and stop time, but since these are Lost, luckily they are beyond our "Heroes" reach.
Each of the four Songs of Power are guarded by a different fey protector, who must be somehow convinced to give up their song, and each will provide a different benefit. The instrument can only retain two of these Songs, so the party must decide which of them to seek out. Time is also of the essence, though the effects of time within the Fey realm, compared with the Material Plane, is confusing, and not entirely known.
As they leave the Fey Council, Solveig is taken aside by Lord Emberdrift, a fire-touched Firbolg, who seems very supportive of their quest. He leads Solveig into a room of great natural power within the great tree and encourages Solveig to commune with the tree and to receive some of its power. Thus Solveig is able to level up!
Armed with the Lyrica Noctis, the knowledge of the locations of the Songs of Power and what they offer, and the means - via the ocarina - to reach any of these locations, our "Heroes" decide upon their next course of action…
